Full Job Description

This position is only open to students studying at University of Brighton and will be responsible for undertaking the sound engineering for Brighton Students' Union events, primarily at The Venue. The role will involve evening events and applicants must be available to attend., o Attend various Union events at different campuses or locations to ensure we have sound engineering coverage at key activities.
o Recording: Operate recording equipment to capture sound for music, film, television, radio, or other projects. This includes setting up microphones, connecting audio cables, and adjusting levels to achieve optimal sound quality.
o Mixing: Mix and balance recorded tracks to create a cohesive and pleasing sound. This involves adjusting levels, panning, and applying effects such as equalization, compression, and reverb.
o Live Sound: Operate sound equipment during live performances, ensuring that sound levels are balanced and consistent throughout the venue. This may involve mixing multiple audio sources in real-time and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
o Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair audio equipment to ensure optimal performance. This includes cleaning, calibrating, and replacing components as needed.
o Collaboration: Work closely with artists, producers, directors, and other team members to understand their creative vision and contribute to the overall success of an event or project.

o Previous experience in event sound engineering - either voluntary or paid work
o Technical Proficiency: A deep understanding of audio equipment, recording techniques, and digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live.
o Attention to Detail: The ability to discern subtle differences in sound quality and make precise adjustments is essential for achieving professional results.
o Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to troubleshoot and find creative solutions to technical challenges during live performances.
o Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with artists and other team members to achieve a shared creative vision.
o Time Management: The ability to be able to work efficiently under tight deadlines and pressure and manage work time effectively to meet project/event milestones.
o Creativity: The ability to shape the artistic direction of an artist/project/event through sound design and mixing decisions.
