Full Job Description

Brighton and Hove is a vibrant and popular place to live with a much higher than average proportion of privately rented homes, including a significant number of Houses in Multiple Occupation. We believe that our private rented sector should be well managed and that everyone has the right to live in decent, save accommodation.

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated people to join our Private Sector Housing Team, who will share our drive to improve the management, standards and quality of private sector homes in the city. Experience of dealing with complex problems and the ability to work under pressure is essential. In return, we can offer flexible working arrangements, a great office location near the sea and excellent terms and conditions including staff discounts on goods and services throughout the city. We can also offer great self-development and career opportunities through our People Promise commitments.

This is an exciting opportunity to supervise a small team within the Private Sector Housing Team and help deliver, safe well managed accommodation for residents living in private sector housing. The team is responsible for delivering HMO licensing under the national mandator scheme and a city-wide additional scheme for HMOs. We will also be introducing a Selective Licensing Scheme in September as well as dealing with requests for assistance from tenants.

You will have excellent organisational, communication and IT skills and be flexible in response to varying workload demands.

You should be a fully qualified Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP), registered with the CIEH on the Professional Register.

Our city is known and loved for its diversity. Not only is the mixture of people, culture and skills vital to the economic and social development of the city, it's what makes Brighton & Hove such a great place to live, work and visit. We are committed to developing and retaining a workforce that is representative of the diverse communities we serve so we welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds. In order to achieve our aims of proportionate representation, we particularly encourage applicants from a BME or White Other background as well as those who identify as disabled, male or trans.
