Full Job Description

Reporting to the Regional Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager the successful candidate will provide health, safety and wellbeing support to our aggregates and ready mixed concrete business based in the Midlands region.,

  • To support the management and further development needs of the Company IMS and associated database systems that support it. In conjunction with operations management and the sustainability resource management team, review on a regular basis the effectiveness of the Management system procedures and ensure their development to maximise effectiveness and reduce cost.

  • To ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences, significant near-hits, incidents and cases of occupational ill health in their relevant area are fully investigated using root cause analysis techniques and advise on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence; as appropriate.

  • To liaise with Company engineers, managers, and contractors regarding the performance of plant and equipment, to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.

  • Where appropriate, to act as the primary point of contact for the local or national health & safety regulatory and enforcement bodies.

  • To work with employees and contractors, at all levels, to ensure regulatory compliance and improved H&S performance at all Breedon UK sites.

  • Work with site managers to ensure a consistent approach to H&S management across all Company operations.

  • To monitor and report on H&S performance across the area under your control.

  • To monitor and promote follow up action from internal/external audits and incidents.

  • To advise the business on compliance requirements for SHE requirements outlined in the IMS. Support industry bodies (both at a UK and European level), working groups or MPA/QNJAC, as directed by line-management.

  • To attend and advise the safety, health & wellbeing committees in your area of responsibility or as advised by line-management.

  • To support the embedding of sustainable behaviour and practice on operational sites, Involvement with occupational health surveillance programmes and providing appropriate feedback and action items to management.

  • Carrying out accident and incident investigations

  • Auditing of health and safety procedures and systems

  • Working to IMS environmental and sustainable best practice on site

  • IOSH/IEMA membership (desired)

  • Certified auditor (desired)

  • Trained in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) techniques (desired)

    Therefore, this is a remote role where the successful post holder will have autonomy regarding delivering and supporting the business H, S & W needs in this region. Therefore, the successful candidate must be confident and a strong communicator who can influence people and win hearts and minds when it comes to safety, health & wellbeing., NEBOSH diploma/certificate or equivalent H&S qualification

  • Good working knowledge of SHE legislation

  • Experience in a similar role, ideally within the quarrying/construction materials sector

  • Working knowledge of ISO management systems

  • Full clean driving license

  • Maintaining a health, safety & environmental management system

  • Liaising with external organisations and regulatory authorities
