Full Job Description

  • Intake Management: Help to coordinate and manage the intake process for dogs entering the Rescue Centre, including assessing their physical and behavioural needs.

  • Assessment and Training: Help to develop and implement individualised training and development plans for dogs, addressing behavioural issues, socialisation and basic obedience training.

  • Supervision: Help to lead and supervise a team of staff and volunteers, ensuring the 5 standards of care and welfare for all dogs at the Rescue Centre.

  • Adoption and Rehoming: Help to oversee the adoption process, ensuring suitable matches between dogs and potential adopters.

  • Welfare: Help to monitor and manage the health and well-being of all dogs within the Rescue Centre, including infection control, health checks, vaccinations, treatments and medications as well as off site appointments to the local Veterinary Practice as necessary.

  • Record Keeping: Help to ensure all medical, intake, training, rehoming and boarding records are properly updated and maintained.

  • Boarding: Help to coordinate and manage the 5 boarding activity at the Rescue Centre

  • Staff Management: Help to motivate and lead the team of staff working in various roles at the Rescue Centre.

  • Liaison with Trustees: Attend regular management meetings and keep Trustees informed about all aspects of Rescue Centre activity.

  • Site Management: Help to oversee the safety and cleanliness of the Rescue Centre and its grounds to maintain a calm, clean, safe and welcoming environment for dogs and visitors.

  • Publicity and Fundraising: Assist with fundraising such as the annual Dog Show and Open Days, build partnerships with local organisations and dog training groups, and assist with the compilation of publicity for the charity including the newsletter and the quarterly Kennel Sponsorship bulletin.

    This is a full time position and alternate weekend working is essential. Applicants must have experience of working directly with dogs and appropriate professional qualifications. You will report directly to the Rescue Centre Manager.


    • Your involvement will encompass the entire rescue process from intake to rehoming. This role requires a compassionate, organised and adaptable individual who is deeply committed to the welfare of dogs.,
  • Proven experience in an animal rescue , preferably in a managerial or senior supervisory role

  • Strong knowledge of dog behaviour, training and welfare

  • Qualifications to accredited Level 3 or equivalent

  • Sound understanding of Canine Law

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of staff and volunteers

  • Proficiency in record keeping, organisational management and managing budgets

  • Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the aims and objectives of CDRS
