Full Job Description

LSE Careers is committed to supporting our students and recent alumni in all aspects of their career planning and professional development. We deliver work to a high professional standard and pride ourselves in continually enhancing and developing the services we offer. The LSE Law School is globally recognised for its outstanding legal research and education.

Working jointly, we're seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Career Consultant dedicated to the provision of careers development advice to Law School students. This is a new position, the post-holder will be formally based in LSE Careers but with a remit to advise Law School students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and alumni, and to also engage with employers. The Careers Consultant will be an invaluable source of guidance and insight for students and alumni on the routes into a legal career and the hiring practices of leading legal firms, in-house corporate provision, and other relevant careers. There will be a particular emphasis on careers support, external engagement, and augmenting the student experience.
The post-holder will design, deliver and continuously improve a careers programme for Law School students and alumni. This will include one-to-one and group discussions, advice and practice sessions. Working across the Law School to promote the programme and to identify learning or development needs, the post-holder will collect and analyse data to understand students' and alumni career development needs and interests. The post-holder will participate in marketing to offer-holders, and network widely within LSE and across the sector, to develop professional contacts and leverage these for the Law School's careers programme.
Candidates should have:

  • A degree or equivalent level education

  • Either previous experience of high-quality careers advice provision, or prior professional experience in the sector in a relevant legal firm to deliver tailored advice and insight to Law School students and alumni and assist them in their career journeys

  • An excellent understanding of the legal sector employment, job market trends, and professional pathways for law graduates

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adjust communications to different audiences and situations, reading people and scenarios encountered

  • Experience of designing and delivering seminars or other presentations, be able to use career development tools and databases, and be ready to utilise a growing network of professional contacts for the benefit of students' careers advice.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 17 June 2024 (23.59 UK time). Interviews will take place 24/26 June 2024 (first round) and 1/2 July 2024 (second round). Regrettably, we are unable to accept any late applications.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, excellent training and development opportunities and blended/hybrid working arrangements.
