Full Job Description

The team is seeking to appoint three fixed term Community Researchers to partner with academics at Bath Spa to co-produce disability research. The research will be responding to three themes (outlined in the attachment).

We would like each group to create a small-scale project which responds to one of the three themes:

  • Arts and Disability;

  • Experiences of disabled people, carers, and/or allies of global ethnic majority origin; and

  • Creating stories with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and those involved in their care.

  • Each group will be allocated a budget to produce this project such as a small event, a video or an artwork, etc. These outputs must either raise awareness or influence change within your community.

    Each group will be supported by a research mentor, the project manager, a working group, and the wider team during the project.

    You will be passionate about disability equality. You will have significant lived experience through being disabled or being a parent/carer, ally or support worker of someone with special educational needs or a disability. You will be well organised and able to manage your own time, as well as work well in a small team. In addition, you will also be computer literate, have some experience of working with a budget and on small projects (or have had the support to do so).

    Please view the attachment with this advert and write no more than 2 sides of A4 outlining why you are suitable for this role and which theme you are responding to and return this to h.vernon@bathspa.ac.uk

    Due to internal commitments with academic teaching schedules, you must be available to start from mid-September 2023 and commit to at least an 8-month period on a part time basis. Roles will be offered on flexible contracts depending on the number of days you are available to work.

    We understand the need for flexibility in the workplace and can offer varied contracts.

    If successful at the interview stage, you can choose from one of the following contract options:

    8 months working 2.5 days a week (0.5FTE or 18.5 hours a week) = Actual salary of £9,326 (pro rata from £27,979).

    9 months working 2 days per week (0.4FTE or 14.8 hours per week) = Actual salary of £8,394 (pro rata from £27,979).

    10 months working 1.5 days per work (0.3FTE or 11.1 hours per week) = Actual salary of £6,995 (pro rata from £27,979).
