Full Job Description

The Mend the Gap Project Officer will help nature recover by providing wildlife friendly management advice and delivering habitat enhancement works, supporting landowners to act for nature and manage their land positively for wildlife.

What you'll be doing;

  • Building relationships with, and creating habitat management plans for, landowners throughout the Mend the Gap project area

  • Preparing work specifications, managing quotes and instructing external contractors to carry out works

  • Supervising external contractors carrying out surveys and capital works on our Cholsey Marsh Reserve and third party land

  • Providing advice to landowners on sources of funding for wildlife friendly land management and developing links between local volunteer organisations to facilitate nature conservation activities, We don't use an application form, or CVs - your answers to our situational based questions will be scored against a review guide and scores from these will decide which candidates go through to the interview stage. See here to find out why we do this.

  • Whilst we appreciate ChatGPT and other AI platforms can answer these questions, we know what they have to say (and generally the answer they generate isn't great). We want to hear your perspective written in your own words. If it is clear that any of your answers are not your own work, we reserve the right to reject your application on that basis.

  • Ability to connect with people across BBOWT as well as external stakeholders such as landowners, farmers and contractors to deliver conservation based activities

  • Ability to independently draw up conservation management plans

  • Experience of drawing up work specifications and managing contractors carrying out works on site

  • Able to work to targets/deadlines without close supervision
