Full Job Description

· Carry out general maintenance duties to ensure the general upkeep of the premises. This includes undertaking electrical, plumbing, and joinery repairs and improvements as necessary;

· Undertake routine inspections of the premises and preventative work and report any defects/issues to the Head and Bursar. This includes routine inspections of fixtures, fittings, premises and grounds to assess for minor works or repairs required;

· Monitor, operate and maintain the premises' fire and security systems. This will include the opening and closing of the premises at the beginning and end of the School day, assist with deliveries outside term time and responding to call outs as necessary in order to ensure satisfactory security arrangements and the adequate security of the premises at all times;

· Ensure all paths and front parking of the School premises are maintained and clear of obstructions to ensure the safety of pupils and staff;

· Carry out decoration programme and improvement works as agreed with the Head and Bursar;

· Arrange regular fire-drills;

· Arrange weekly fire alarm testing and keeping records;

· Direct contractors to the site of repair and maintenance work, ensuring that their attendance is recorded. Report to the Head and Bursar any failures to comply with Health and Safety regulations and keep record of performance for invoice purposes;

· Order cleaning stock for the site.

· Manage and review service contracts;

· Conduct and keep relevant documents of regular facilities inspections;

· Ensure that all necessary statutory tests are carried out in a timely manner, keeping accurate records and providing updates to the Head and Bursar

· Keep maintenance equipment in good condition and report any defects to the Head and Bursar;

· Carry out other duties appertaining to the use of the premises as may be necessary from time to time and as reasonably required from School management.

· PAT testing all electrical equipment on premises and assist with PAT testing at the other sites when necessary.

· Assist with school events during the day and after hours

Health & Safety

· Act as School HSE representative to ensure that all operational elements of the facilities meet with high standards of HSE at all times;

· Promote and develop a zero accident philosophy and culture;

· maintain good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the School premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere;

· Review annually the School's Emergency, Fire Risk, Fire Safety, First Aid, Incident Plan and Management and Health & Safety policies;

· Ensure preparedness for security and emergencies through robust policies;

· Ensure effective implementation of the security and emergencies procedures;

· Disseminate to fellow colleagues the safety precautions in the workplace;

· prompt, assist and support the SLT in conducting risk assessments for visiting professionals, volunteers, work experience students, and other members as required from time to time;

· Provide support and guidance in interpreting statutory requirements;

· Keep up to date with changes and development that will affect Independent Schools and inform the Head and Bursar as appropriate;

· Carryout Compliance Audits and accident investigations to ensure statutory and School compliance;

· Produce comprehensive accident investigation reports to the Head and Bursar and the business which highlights root causes and effective control measures;

· Develop existing behavioural safety culture within the business and champion campaigns to improve HSE culture at all School sites;

· Advise the Head and Bursar on all Health and Safety Legal requirements that effect the School's operation;

· Promote a culture of full compliance and continual improvement for all HSE requirements, ensuring compliance with legislation and School HSE policies is maintained;

· Maintain a high profile at all School sites;

· Willingness to attend and participate in training and development programmes relevant to the post and as required by the Head and Bursar.

· High degree of skill in areas such as electrical and plumbing upkeep and repairs (e.g. ability to rewire plugs, install light fittings, clearing and fixing blocked and leaky sinks and toilets );

· PAT testing qualified;

· Act as a Fire Warden for the premises;

· Ability for portaging duties such as the removal of furniture as necessary;

· Assist with School training for all staff as necessary;

· Maintain and monitor Health and Safety standards;

· Assist with Risk Assessments

· Recommend improvements to safety as necessary;

· Work as a team member and offering advice and guidance as necessary.

· The ability to provide support at all school sites when necessary

· Be up to date with all Public Health developments.

· Maintain a smart appearance at all times wearing facilities clothing provided and act as an ambassador for the School.
